Safety Precautions
- Know how to shut the gas supply off at your tank. The installer should show you upon set up of the propane tank.
- Never place flammable or combustible materials near any open flames that originate from your appliances.
- Never store any propane tanks / cylinders inside any building.
- A persistent odor can be the result of a serious leak and not just the result of a low amount of propane in your tank.
- Always notify your propane dealer if you suspect a leak.
Heating Regulations
- A bedroom or bathroom can not have a heater that is above 10,000 BTU's.
- A propane tank needs to be placed at least 10 feet from a dwelling and 5 feet from a heat pump or air conditioning unit unless it is a120 gallon tank.
- Refrigeration copper must be used for your propane tank and lines to your heaters.
Lighting pilots on appliances
- It is best to have a trained professional light the pilots on your appliances.
- Do not light a pilot if you smell gas.
- Notify the propane company immediately if you have a problem lighting your pilot
- Do not modify or repair any component of a gas appliance or valve.
- If you continue to smell gas after lighting a pilot, turn off the gas valve upstream of the appliance immediately to stop the flow of gas. Contact your supplier immediately to investigate the situation.
Facts about propane
- Propane is a liquid that is odorless. A chemical odorant is added so users can be aware if there is a leak.
- Propane that is stored in your tank can cause frostbite if it comes in contact with your skin or eyes.
- Most propane tanks are a light color to prevent excessive pressure from building up from.
